Catalytic Converter Prices
How to value Catalytic Converters?
Catalytic Converters cannot be priced by weight, you might ask why? The answer is that you need a lot of the same Catalytic Converters (CAT) to get a percentage of each precious metal and that is near impossible to do.
How are Catalytic Converters priced if they cannot be priced by weight?
Rather than being priced by weight as the precious metal content can vary, Catalytic Converters are priced by piece instead.
How much metal can be recovered from a Catalytic Converter?
With thousands of different grades of Catalytic Converters, you need to separate them into lots to get an insight of how much metal content is in each type.
What are the primary metals used within Catalytic Converters?
1. Platinum – Believed to be the best metal used overall for performance in a catalytic converter. It is used to negate fumes and pollution coming from the vehicles engine. Platinum traps bad particles before they reach the exhaust and different ions negate the pollution effect on the environment.
2. Palladium – Used in higher-end Catalytic Converters and is generally more expensive than Platinum.
3. Rhodium – Helps eliminate fumes as a reduction component and when used with Palladium it leads to higher efficiency in eliminating more harmful toxins that would otherwise escape.
What are the other materials used within Catalytic Converters?
1. Metal / Ceramic Foil – The honeycomb pattern you see inside a Catalytic Converter is made up of ceramic or metal foil. Surface space and openings are there in order for the exhaust fumes to pass through it and in the process capture harmful toxins.
2. Metal Shield – Generally made of steel on the outside, but also can be a magnetic stainless steel or a 304/304 stainless steel that is used for the casing.
